Crowns
A crown is a cap that is placed over a tooth when a tooth is considered to be too weak to bear a filling. The cap normally consists of an inner metal cap with porcelain on the outside. However, the crown can also be completely ceramic or zirkonium if this is cosmetically preferred.
A crown is made when a tooth fractures either by accident due to big fillings or caries (cavities). Often a crown is also made after root-canal treatment or in the case of larger fillings to prevent the tooth from fracturing.
Bridges
A bridge is constructed where there is need for replacing a missing tooth. The neighbouring teeth will be included in the bridge by fitting a crown over each of them. To fill the place of the missing tooth a middle piece shaped as a crown links the neighbouring crowns forming a bridge. The crowns are joined by a gold framework on the inside with porcelain on the outside.
